1st Birthday | Jesse Turns 1!

Mr Jesse's mom warned me that he was a busy little man and was already running around at 10 months old. But she did not stress just how busy he was. My goodness me, he certainly had me on my toes and tested my photography skills! But you know something...I loved every minute of it. And I absolutely love the resulting photographs.

I set up this little scene and then his mom brought out these red braces and they are just so perfect.
He didn't stay still for one moment so I rolled out my large white canvas backdrop which gave him a large area to play and run around on while I rolled around on the floor with my camera.
I love this typical baby face, serious concentration, slightly open mouth and complete fascination.
I just love this photo...little finger up and he was telling us a very serious (totally incomprehensible) story!
 Such a beautiful family.
Love it, love it, love it!!!
I had to keep hauling out new toys, new scenes and new props to keep this little guy's interest. He thoroughly enjoyed the vintage wheelbarrow and being pushed around the garden.

Thank you so much for allowing me the privilege of photographing your son on his very first birthday. It was an awesome session and he is adorable.

Watch Me Grow | Isla - newborn

Brand new little Isla came in for her very first session in her Watch Me Grow series. It was fun going through the props and choosing a combination that would work well and show how much she will grow and develop over the next 12 months.
Without further ado here is her first photo. Isn't she just angelic?
Whenever I do a Watch Me Grow series I always include a couple of photos of the babies with their parents. Those are some of my favourite photos so I cannot resist throwing them in for free. I love these two below. Look at how tiny her head is.
Newborn photos are always so beautiful, peaceful, controlled and tear jerking. Sometimes it takes an hour to get baby to that point where I can take that photograph that melts your heart. Here is a quick peak at what it took from mom and dad to get little Isla to settle into the adorable pose you see above.
Safety is vitally important. She wasn't deeply asleep so I swaddled her in a gorgeous muslin wrap so that she was less likely to jerk suddenly and launch herself out of the barrel. Dad had his hands on her until the very moment I needed to take the shot. The instant the photo was taken he put his hands back.

Newborn | Sasha at just 14 days new

Sweet little Sasha was an angel. She just slept so beautifully. She folded herself up all nicely for me and I thoroughly enjoyed her session.

 Her mom's favourite photo.

I love it when they let you pose them folded up tight and you get to see the back wrinkles. Aren't those too precious?
 Look at all that hair!
And that face all squished up. You could just eat it up.
She is definitely the rose amongst the thorns. Here are her two protective older brothers.
Her entire foot is as long as dad's middle finger!
Big brother is just so photogenic and he had on this awesome jacket so we quickly went outside to take a few pictures of him in the garden.

Newborn | Bea at just 14 days old

Precious little Bea had a bit of a rough start to life. You know it actually is quite an adjustment from being in the womb to being in the world. I've just seen her again today for her wonderful parents' Viewing Session and she has finally settled in. She was dreaming away in her car seat. And my goodness she has grown since this photo session.
I had such a tough time choosing my favourite photos of the day.
She's a real Daddy's girl. She had quite a few niggly moments but settled within moments of being in Daddy's arms. He's got the magic Daddy Rock down to a fine art.
I really love giving my clients just want they want. Bianca mentioned that she loves Black and White as well as Antique tones. I really enjoyed coming up a lovely antique colour wash look which I think turned out so nicely. I'm definitely going to use this look again.
Here is the same photo in my version of black and white.
This is Daddy's favourite photo. Look at that little face!
Thank you so much for allowing me the privilege of photographing your little one in the first few weeks of her life. It really is an honour.

How to not look fat {for photos}

I often hear all about how you, my beautiful clients, do not want to be in the photographs with your children.
"I'm not a model so I don't need lots of photos of myself."
"My arms are too fat."
"Please don't make me look fat."

Well... that all may be true but your children honestly do not care and when they are older they will want photographs of the two of you together. My children love the photos of me and them more than photos of themselves on their own.

I love the song by Freshly Ground:
Even though I have fat thighs, flabby arms, A pot belly still gives good loving.

And I totally understand what you are saying. I have a double chin no matter what I weigh. I really do not like my arms. I actually dislike them so much I wore a long sleeve dress on my wedding day. And we are just not talking about my legs. But look at this photo my husband took...
I like this photo of myself. You can't see my double chin, my arms look just fine and no one has any idea what type of legs I have. I like this photo so much I have it framed in my home.

So because I'm not a model and most moms aren't either I went and did a course on how to pose people so that I can make you look great. So not matter your body shape or size I've got some tricks that will make you love your photos and want to print them. Just small things like how to stand, where to put your hands and how to sit to disguise all the not so good bits.

Every photo below is one that is special. It shows a connection between mom and child, it evokes emotion and it's worth framing. More than that, the moms are just regular moms, not models. Although your body may be as the Freshly Ground song describes nobody knows it in any of these photos and you all look beautiful.

Admittedly this was a photograph to highlight my friend Jenni's nail design in BioSulpture gel but the connection between her and her daughter is priceless.
Me at a very horribly fat weight. But who knows?
This lovely lady (below) was right at the end of her pregnancy and felt a whole lot less serene and elegant than she looks here.
This beautiful mom (below) had just had a baby 10 days earlier. I think she looks gorgeous.
I absolutely love this photo (below).
So before you choose your photographer have a good look at their portfolio and see how they make other moms (and Oumas) look. If you like what you see and you think the moms look great, the photos are full of emotion and there is a connection between the people then book the photographer quickly and know they are worth what their asking price is. You will not be disappointed.
