'Watch Me Grow' - Baby's First Year

For some, doing a full on 4 hour newborn session is quite costly and it really does only capture the one moment in your new little one's life. I have designed a package that includes photographs from 5 different stages in baby's life.

Before baby arrives you come along to my studio and choose the props and set up you would like to use. Then within the first 14 days of baby's life I photograph them all curled up and fast asleep on the prop. (My newborn was not big on sleeping. At 9 months she has only just started to sleep longer then 30 minutes at a time.)
At 3 months you return and we set up the same scene and by this time baby will be pushing up nicely on their arms and often very generous with smiles.
At 6 months most babies can sit quite nicely and love flapping their arms in delight.
At 9 months pulling themselves up on things and standing, although quite wobbly, is the next major milestone.
At 1 year most can walk or stand alone. My little one hasn't reached a year yet so we'll just have to wait and see what her little photo looks like. Here is my Watch Me Grow Collection so far. Once it is complete I will frame each photograph in a long frame and hang it very proudly on my family photograph wall.

Maternity Photo Session - Waiting for Isabella

Here is the beautiful Gabrielle waiting for precious little Isabella Pearl...

I crochet all my props and while I was searching for patterns for baby props I found a pattern for the most gorgeous maternity sash for gender reveal so when I booked my first two maternity sessions I immediately delved into my yarns and crocheted this sash for Gabrielle. The pattern can be found here.

Maternity Photo Session - Waiting for Nia...

I had never done a maternity photo session before and then I got two requests on the same day, to be shot on the same day for two ladies due only days apart and both expecting girls. My creative juices really got flowing because I never want two clients to look at their photos and the only difference is the people in them. I want each client to have a unique, wonderful and beautiful experience with photographs that reflect who they are.

Here is lovely Flora waiting for Nia...

Twee Woelige Rooikoppe (Two Lively Redheads)

Lizel phoned me and said she had 'twee woelige rooikoppe' and she was looking for a photographer prepared to photographer her family and do it before Christmas. I literally had one spot open and she jumped at the opportunity and even paid up front in full just to make sure she got that one last space. I went out the day before the session to have a look at a new location and immediately saw some great photo opportunities especially with two lively redheads.
Marius-Dylan is a wonderful lively but quite serious little 3 year old. He took one look at the water and just wanted to splash and play around in it. Dad was amazing and patiently showed him how to throw little stones into the water.
Lorna-Anne, a precious 14 month old, couldn't wait to join boetie and was eagerly copying his stone throwing.
They were both quite happy for me to photograph them so long as they weren't required to look into the camera. A tip for those parents wanting to capture their children on camera is to never tell them to smile. You will get all kinds of weird and wonderful faces which they think are smiles but really are not! Just let them play, watch patiently and the right moment will come along where they will look at you quite spontaneously and give you a gorgeous smile. And you can capture who they really are when they are absorbed in what they are doing and not trying to pose for you.
Throwing up in the air is always a hit with the children. Every time without fail they ask for more and more and more and Dad has to beg for mercy.

 Big feet...little feet
With much persuading and cajoling we got Marius-Dylan away from the water and off to a shaded spot for some absolutely priceless moments.

Lorna-Anna riding her horse for all she was worth.
Here are my two absolute favourites...

December was a really busy month so look out several more blog posts including maternity photo sessions and a brand new 10 day old.
