Boys are just different!

Boys are definitely just different!
I have two daughters. Lovely, sweet, pink, gentle girls. I have two brothers but despite my younger brother being 24 years younger than I am I only see him once or twice a year as my family lives in South Africa. So I have little experience of the differentness of boys.

My only real experience is gained from my dog, Grizzly Wingnut Mutt. Yes you read correctly, Grizzly Wingnut Mutt. He got the Grizzly from my father-in-law who said he looked like a miniature grizzly bear when I found him abandoned on the side of the road. He was probably a week old, was covered in over 100 ticks, had a broken tail and weighed 500g! The Wingnut comes from his large ears that stick out of the side of his head and make him look like a wingnut especially when we take him to be shorn in summer.

So back to the point of this post. I got home yesterday afternoon and opened the gate to drive in. When I closed the gate a few moments later all my dogs were inside and excited to see me. A little while later I opened the gate again to let my house help out and it was open for a few minutes. Once I said goodbye to her I saw one of the dogs just outside the gate and I let her back in, closed the gate and then walked back towards the house when I came across THIS:

Question number one: What the heck is that? Ok I recognised it after a moment as the shin and hoof of a cow.
Question number two: Where the heck did he get THAT? It could only have been on our pavement and he found it in the 2 minutes he was outside sniffing around.
Question number three: What on earth prompted someone to feel the need to leave a COW'S LEG on my pavement???

Whenever I called Grizzly's name he would suddenly stop chewing the leg, move slightly away from it and look at me and it as if to say, "I don't know what that is or how it got near me! I'm innocent!'

So now why do I say boys are different? Whenever I open the gate all the dogs have to run onto the pavement and have a sniff around. So both female dogs went out with him but it was he who brought the leg inside and not the girls!

Boys will be boys!!!

Waiting for our Baby...

I had the privilege of photographing elegant Barbara while they eagerly await the arrival of their son. We had a quick session in my studio and my garden and here are some of my favourite photos of the day.

Just because they are so special...

When my eldest daughter was born I faithfully took a photo of her on every Friday of the week for her first year. I then started to build up a collage of her as each month went past. I framed it and hung it in the passage. I absolutely love that collage. Each time I walk past it I stop and remember one or other time or moment in the first year of her life. I get to relive that priceless first year over and over again.

Then when my second precious angel came along I did the same thing. I completed her collage a little while back but only managed to find the frame matching her sister's collage today. I have just hung it on the wall. I look at the two collages and tears come to my eyes and I focus on just how precious, actually how priceless beyond measure, my two children are.

I thought I would share these two collages with you. The photos don't need to be professionally taken. They don't even need to be perfect. All they need to do is bring back a memory that makes your heart glad and brings tears of joy to your eyes.

The van Wyk Clan

Three beautiful families; one big clan.

This was a whirlwind photo session. I put together a custom package to make sure I had enough time to photograph all the kiddies and all the individual family groups as well as the combined clan. I had tremendous fun and I'm pretty convinced by all the laughing and clowning around that went on that they all did too. With almost double the number of photographs than in a normal family photo session I had a really tough time picking out my favourites. I have been through the photos so many times and changed my mind so many times.

This little guy was not the least bit interested in me and my camera. He was far too interested in doing boy things such as sticking his hand down a hole because he was convinced a 'gogga' lived there. Who knows what was down that hole but I certainly would not have just stuck my hand in there.
What a gentleman this young man is. He was not big on smiles but big on manners and he did enjoy himself in his quiet way. Every photo I took of him is a keeper. He was a pleasure.
Bubbles of fun this little one of just 2 is. She was insatiable. Most 2 year olds can handle me for 30 minutes and by 45 minutes it is time for me to pack up my gear and leave. This little lady just kept on going.
Her older cousin is a sweetie pie. She had such fun running around and rummaging in my box of tricks. Her smile is precious and she gave me loads of those.
 Loves and hugs.
Mr I'm-Not-Afraid-of-Strange-Things-Down-Holes did give my one smile and it was priceless. I absolutely love this portrait.
As you can see one photograph later he was gone!
 Special handshake between men!
 The light of Mom's life.
 Peek-a-boo.
Ma en Pa. This Ouma's face lights up so beautifully when she smiles. You get drawn in and end up smiling too.

 Ma and her boys.
 Ma and her beautiful daughter.
 Pa and his boys.
We were getting towards the end of the session here and Oupa was getting a bit tired of this frolicking around the park business. Despite that he still looked so cool leaning up against the pillar.
I just love these two photos.
