Heike | Matric Dance Photo Session

I do not get to do many matric dance sessions as they only come around once a year and I can only take one client a day but I actually really enjoy doing them. A different side of my creativeness has to get into gear and and it is great fun.

Meet Heike, a gentle soul who just wants to please. She was so polite and respectful that she made me feel special.

We had several conversations about where to have her session as she really wanted to have something different from Parliament Gardens. At the last moment she settled on the Supreme Court passageway with the stunning large columns. I am very happy with how the photographs turned out. 

I really had to concentrate to make sure the columns were always upright and not looking like the leaning tower of Pisa. Not such an easy thing because camera lenses tend to distort things a bit.

 I love the dimples...very cute.

 Wind blowing through hair always looks so romantic.

Fun Things to do this Weekend {for FREE!}

"Mom…I'm bored!" 
How many times do we as parents hear that? So I put together a few fun things to do with your kids this weekend and best of all they are pretty much free!

1.  Swing as high as you can and see-saw your heart out.
Windhoek actually has some pretty cool play parks. They may not have green grass but the equipment is, for the most part, in good condition and well oiled. We paid a visit to the park in Pionierspark Ext 1 and I had as much fun as my kids did. The swings are wide enough for mom and dad sized posteriors, the see-saws are high and the merry-go-rounds awesome.

2.  Make a Fire
This one is perfect for boys. Dads teach your boys how to safely make a fire and then toast some marshmallows and boerewors on a stick. Boys love fires and throwing things into them to watch how they burn. There is something mezerising about a fire.

3.  Beauty Make-over {by your daughter}
Clear out your make-up box of all the old and grundgey make-up you never use and put it into a little bag for your daughter. Then let her have her way with you and give you a make-over you will never forget. You can even let her do your hair.
There is just something so special about sitting on the floor and letting your little girl do your make-up. The concentration on her face and the pleasure she gets from it is worth the smeared lipstick and frightening eye shadow.

3 Tips for Taking Better Photos of Your Children

1. DO NOT tell them to smile. 
    This is what you will get.

Rather chat to them and try to make them laugh naturally. Then you will get this:

2. Get in close
You do not need to have every shot from head to toe. Get in close and capture those big, sparkly eyes.

3. Let them be themselves
The photos that you will cherish the most are when you capture the moments when they look just like their cute, adorable selves. So don't over direct them. All I did in this image was asked my daughter to stand with her teddy on her hip and sing for me. She loves singing. And this is probably my all time favourite photo of her.
