What to Wear to a Spring Family Session

The birds are chirping, the buds are blooming, and winter is officially over. That means it’s time for your spring family session. Here are a few wardrobe tips to ensure the whole gang looks smashing.

Play up the face that it's Spring! Have a necklace with a butterfly pendant? Perfect! An insect printed tee? Yes, please. Let the little ones dress themselves. If they really put on a creation bring along a change of clothes and we'll make sure everyone looks great.

Channel the colours of Spring. Whenever I go shopping in Winter I walk away so disappointed. Somehow everyone thinks that one can only wear black, grey and brown in Winter. Why can we not wear colour in Winter? Anyway, it's Spring now so you have full permission to wear all the colours of the rainbow. Look out the window for inspiration for your family’s colour palette. Greens, pinks, yellows, beige, khaki, and blues all work exceptionally well.

Layer up! Spring can be both warm and cool at one, so come prepared. We love spring scarves, light cardigans and dresses wth boots.

Cocklin Family Photo Session

I really enjoy the Cocklin Family. I get to see little Isla every four months for her Watch Me Grow series and now I got to meet the whole family all the way from the grandparents down to the newest member of the family who was only a few weeks old at the time.

We had to work in relays because my little studio was seriously overcrowded with everyone squeezed into it but we had fun and got some really cutie pie photographs.

As a professional photographer sometimes one tends to think that all our photographs are perfect but the truth is they are not. Sometimes it is not really our 'fault' and other times we do take terrible photographs. This one is one my favourite imperfect photographs. I smile every single time I see it.
The three moms look lovely, all smiles and composed but look closely at the girls. The little newborn was howling, the three year old had found one of my daughters very noisy toys and was no longer interested in photographs and the almost one year old was more interested in what her cousin was up to.
All in all a perfectly imperfect photograph worth keeping!

Thank you for entrusting me Cocklin Family to capture your family.

Have a great week!

Fun Things to do this Weekend {for FREE!}

"Mom…I'm bored!"
How many times do we as parents hear that? So I put together a few fun things to do with your kids this weekend and best of all they are pretty much free!

1.  Swing as high as you can and see-saw your heart out.
Windhoek actually has some pretty cool play parks. They may not have green grass but the equipment is, for the most part, in good condition and well oiled. We paid a visit to the park in Pionierspark Ext 1 and I had as much fun as my kids did. The swings are wide enough for mom and dad sized posteriors, the see-saws are high and the merry-go-rounds awesome.
2.  Make a Fire
This one is perfect for boys. Dads teach your boys how to safely make a fire and then toast some marshmallows and boerewors on a stick. Boys love fires and throwing things into them to watch how they burn. There is something mezerising about a fire.

3.  Beauty Make-over {by your daughter}
Clear out your make-up box of all the old and grundgey make-up you never use and put it into a little bag for your daughter. Then let her have her way with you and give you a make-over you will never forget. You can even let her do your hair.
There is just something so special about sitting on the floor and letting your little girl do your make-up. The concentration on her face and the pleasure she gets from it is worth the smeared lipstick and frightening eye shadow.
I wish you all a wonderful, fun-filled weekend!

Toddler Photo Session | Neelsie - 13 months old!

I think Neelsie might be my new favourite little boy to photograph...but I have a picture of Wien next to me and it's just so hard to decide. I think they'll both have to be my favourite! Neelsie is just 13 months old and he is positively edible. He's happy, easy to please and found my daughter's hairband that I tied around my camera most fascinating. He looked straight into the camera almost every single time.

I just love this set up with the toys and the blue bunting. Little boys thoroughly enjoy it and it really helps them warm to me and my big black camera.
With Oupa and Ouma. He just adores them. Just like Wien got fixated on my lens cap and it was the theme for his session, little Neelsie fell in love with this blue ball. It was his companion until he discovered...
...my little riempie chair just the right size for a one year old. He was not going to get off that chair for anything!
Blowing bubbles and bubbles and more bubbles!!
Can't you just eat that face up? And look at those blue eyes. I normally brighten eyes up a little to make them pop but this little man's eyes are so amazing that I didn't need to do anything!
This is his own personal Oliver the Owl hat his mom ordered for him to wear for the session and take home. He looks so cute.
 With Mama en Papa.
Aren't baby feet so squishy and soft and you just can't help but touch them and kiss them?
Oh my goodness what are they doing to me? Will somebody please rescue me?
I thoroughly enjoyed this session. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of photographing your lovely family.
Stay posted for three newborns and the return of the Heyman Twins for the next session in their Watch Me Grow series. You can sign up below to get automatic updates.

Wien Turns 1!! Smash that Cake!!

Wien, who I photographed a few months ago, has turned ONE! He came in for his fist birthday photographs and a Cake Smash session and we had some good laughs...

I must say this is one of my favourite little boys to photograph. He often looks straight into the camera and smiles or laughs. He interacts with me, climbs all over me and is just fun to be around!

This little man fixes his attention one thing and try as hard as you might there is just no getting him to focus on anything else. Last time I photographed him he was so attached to his little blue stuffed toy. This time.... he found my lens cap to be immensely fascinating. Not a single tactic we tried could pry it out of his hands and it became the central theme for most of his session.
Oh, I could just eat him up!!

Time for the cake. He was just so excited...
until he touched the cake and then he was thoroughly disgusted with this stuff on his hands! It took some very serious persuasion to get him to consider trying some and playing with it so we could get some fun photos.

This is a busy month so sign up below to get all the latest cutie pie photos as I publish them.
